ABOUT THE EVENT: A century after the death of William Geil (1865-1925), the first person to explore and photograph the length of the Great Wall of China, Willian Lindesay OBE will be the speaker May 14 at the Yale Center Beijing. A British researcher of the Great Wall and founder of the International Friends of the Great Wall, Lindesay will evoke a journey along the Great Wall in the past and the present, honoring the legacy of William Geil through vivid storytelling, stunning and sometimes startling photography, and videos. This event is co-organized by the RASBJ, the Yale Center Beijing and Yale Club.


ABOUT THE SPEAKER: William Lindesay has lived in China for over 30 years, dedicating his life to the exploration, research and preservation of the Great Wall. He has authored 10 books on the subject, published by major houses including Harvard University Press, Oxford University Press and Penguin Viking. He has received several of China's highest honors awarded to foreigners, including 'The Friendship Award' (1998) and the Beijing Great Wall Friendship Award (2008). He was also appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in 2006, and currently serves as an honorary senior research fellow at the University of Liverpool.

    British author and TV personality William Lindesay, OBE is a top educator in Great Wall Studies. He’s written numerous books and curated eight exhibitions on the Great Wall. He’s been presenter and producer of NatGeo, Discovery Channel and BBC documentaries about it. He’s spent a total of 2,800 days on the Wall.
