MORE ABOUT THE EVENT: Katherine Morton will reflect on her experiences studying environment and climate change in China over the past three decades. Dating back to her first encounter with rural pollution in Zhejiang Province in the early 1990s, she will discuss some pioneering measures taken to introduce cleaner production to the heavily industrialised cities in the Northeast,to control the summer floods in the central Yangtze River basin in 1998, and mitigate the impacts of climate change across the Tibetan Plateau. The journey ends in Hainan, looking at more recent developments taking place in ocean governance. She will reveal how place and local context play an important role in shaping understandings of sustainability over time, while also sharing some of her thoughts on where China is heading next.
Moderator Huw Slater is an Energy and Climate Specialist at ClientEarth. He currently manages the EU-China Environment Project and leads the publication of the annual China Carbon Pricing Survey reports, the most in-depth and extensive summaries of stakeholder views on China's carbon market development.
