WHAT: REMINDER -- "Moonlight Warrior", a private film showing exclusively for members of RASBJ and their guests, followed by a discussion with director and author Hong Ying



WHEN: Saturday May 25 โ€“ The film will start at 4.30 PM and run for 1 hr 50 mins, followed by 40 minutes of Q&A with Hong Ying. Doors open at 4 PM. The event will end at 7 PM

MORE ABOUT THE EVENT: This private showing of a film by author and director Hong Ying presents the story of a teenage boy growing up in post-Mao Chongqing. It delicately plays out the tale of a relationship between the boy and a nurse, the most memorable person in his young life. Coupling the poetic and romantic tale with a depiction of a rapidly urbanising Chongqing from the 1970s to the 1990s, Hong Ying leaves viewers with an indelible impression of the broken love, dreams and fate of the protagonist and his muse. The film was awarded the Best Screenplay in a Feature at the 2023 Next Generation Indie Film Awards. It was also selected to show at the 2023 China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festivals.



MORE ABOUT THE DIRECTOR AND AUTHOR: Hong Ying is an acclaimed author of many novels including, "K: The Art of Love" and a best-selling autobiography, "Daughter of the River". "Moonlight Warrior" is her first film.



HOW MUCH: Admission is RMB 200 for members of RASBJ and partner RAS branches, and RMB 300 for non-members. Members may each bring an accompanying non-member, but members will have priority until noon on May 17. The price includes light refreshments.

REFUND POLICY: Attendees will be refunded in full if RASBJ cancels this event. Registrations for those who have not paid by Thursday, May 23 at noon will be cancelled. After noon on May 23, registrants who cannot attend for personal reasons will not be be refunded.

    Hong was born in Chongqing on September 21, 1962, towards the end of the Great Leap Forward. She began to write at eighteen, leaving home shortly after. After brief periods of study at the Lu Xun Academy in Beijing and Shanghai’s Fudan University, Hong Ying moved to London in 1991 where she settled as a writer. She returned to Beijing in 2000. In recent years, Hong Ying has written a number of books for children: "Mimidola: the River Child"; "The Girl from the French Fort"; "The Legend of Liya"; "New Moon Rise".
