ABOUT THE EVENT: This documentary follows Fang Li, a Chinese filmmaker, geophysicist and marine technologist, as he uncovers the truth behind a forgotten WWII tragedy. After discovering the underwater wreckage of the Lisbon Maru, a torpedoed Japanese freighter carrying British prisoners of war, Fang and his team embark on an exploration of this complex wartime incident involving Britain, America, Japan, and China. The team launched a global investigation 80 years post-event. They sought witnesses and descendants, connected with POW descendants and amassed evidence. Crucially, they interviewed centenarian survivors and rescuers, preserving vital testimonies. This film blends survivor testimonies and cinematic animations to depict the cruelty and absurdity of war, highlighting both human kindness and wartime atrocities.
