WHAT: "The Contribution of China to Global Medical Research", an online talk by Michael Humphries, co-organized by RAS SH and RASBJ

ABOUT THE EVENT: As China's body of scientific research and knowledge expands massively, the country's contributions to advances including AI in drug discovery, diagnosis and treatment are taking an increasingly significant role in world health.

In this joint RAS Shanghai and RASBJ event, the speaker will review the medical and scientific roots of RAS in China and Hong Kong dating back to the 19th century and introduce China's most important contributions to global health care (including traditional medicine). Michael is a very engaging speaker and expert on medicine. His two previous talks for RASBJ, first about the visit to China in the 1760s of a British naval surgeon, and the second about pandemics, were both very enlightening. The speaker will be moderated by Alan Babington-Smith of RASBJ.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Michael Humphries studied medicine at Cambridge University, trained in internal medicine in London and moved to Hong Kong as Consultant Physician. He has held adjunct associate professor appointments at both Hong Kong University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. For the last 30 years he has been living and working in China, focused on the R&D of new medicines.
